Human Performance in Default Reasoning

چکیده
system of default inference is, nor any other standard with which to compare artificial agents that embody such a system. And so it follows that any judgment of the correctness of a proposed system of default reasoning will be as a test of the system against the way humans perform on that reasoning problem. (This outlook on default reasoning, augmented by many quotations from AI researchers who would appear to believe the same, can be found in Pelletier & Elio 1997).

What Should Default Reasoning Be, by Default?
This is a position paper concerning the role of empirical studies of human default reasoning in the formalization of AI theories of default reasoning. We note that AI motivates its theoretical enterprise by reference to human skill at default reasoning, but that the actual research does not make any use of this sort of information and instead relies on intuitions of individual investigators. We...
متن کاملOn the Peculiarities of Default Reasoning of Children with Autism
We employ the formalism of default logic to model certain phenomena of autistic reasoning. Our main finding is that while people with autism may be able to process single default rules, they have a characteristic difficulty in cases where multiple default rules conflict. Even though default reasoning was intended to simulate the reasoning of typical human subjects, it turns out that following t...

However, many biomedical applications appear to require default reasoning, at least if they are to be engineered in a maintainable way. Default reasoning has always been one of the great strengths of Frame syst...

متن کاملEvaluating an Algorithm for Default Reasoning
In this paper performance of a lately proposed decision procedure for Reiter's default logic is evaluated. Recent complexity results indicate that there are two orthogonal sources of complexity in default reasoning: classical ((rst-order) reasoning and connict resolution (i.e. choosing an appropriate set of applicable non-connicting default rules). For classical reasoning well-known techniques ...
